Are Your Affiliates Experts When it Comes to Marketing Your Product?

If you believe the answer is “Yes”, you may also believe in the tooth fairy !

Until you get close to the top level, most affiliates should not be considered experts when it comes to marketing;Let alone expert at marketing your product. They may have a prospect list and even a buyers list but that doesn’t mean that they are optimizing their return on investment. When pressing the ‘Send’ button, they are just as likely to achieve the exact opposite of their goal. List abandonment is on the rise.

So while the implications of that are sinking in, let me take you on to your next realisation!

When managing a big product launch involving joint venture partners and affiliates, you are in fact managing two such launches at the same time. One to the ‘front of house’ customers and the other to your ‘trade’ partners. Each one requires the same amount of time and effort. The techniques are the similar but the words used are different.

So if you want to be sure to send your JV partners ever larger checks to fund their lust for fast cars and the beach lifestyle [which you do incidentally because that is the only way they will promote for you again], you will be writing

  • one set of pre-launch emails for your ‘front of house’ customers;
  • another for your affiliates
  • and probably up to 4 different sets of swipe copy email for them to send out to their lists.

4 sets because their prospects are probably on more than one list and you don’t want these people to receive the same mail from 6 different affiliate partners.

Your top affiliates have businesses to run. They don’t have time to create their own content. Even if they did, their output would not be as good as yours because they are not so intimately aware of the killer benefits your product offers.

If you only give them an affiliate link, with no tools to promote it, the best you can hope for is…

“This guys a friend of mine. He usually over-delivers. I got a preview of this, check it out, it’s awesome, here’s my affiliate link….”
