3 Product Launch Management Fundamentals – Do You Qualify ?

Olympic Athletes Demand The Best

Olympic Athletes Demand The Best

Well, let’s be clear on something straight away.

To be a good product launch manager

You don’t have to be a genius in the marketing department. Neither do you have to be an ace deal maker – it helps but it’s not an essential – Nor do you have to have had years of experience as a project manager.

Here are the three essentials

  1. A thorough product launch marketing training
  2. Event Management Experience
  3. And you must know your strengths

Rory Ramsden scores 3/3

  • Product Launch Marketing Training

Trained by the guru of all product launch managers, Jeff walker. Finished in the school of ace online marketer, Frank Kern. A Graduate of John Carlton’s Simple Writing System. I guess you could say that Rory has been trained by the best in the business. Make no mistake if you want to be the best, you have to seek out the best and model their successes. That is precisely what he has done.

  • Event Management Experience

Managing high pressure events for more than 20 years, Rory has learned that the window of opportunity stays open only so long and then closes for ever. Staging and running Olympic sailing events means that you get to work with extremely motivated and focused athletes. They demand the best of themselves and they take no prisoners when it comes to any short comings in the events in which they compete. ‘Get it right or get lost’ might be a good way of describing their attitude.  Rory has been knocked out of the same mold

  • Know Your Own Strengths

Leading a team requires that you have systems in place. That you constantly strive to do better. That you know the value you bring to the team and the value that others bring too. That you are invisible and the team members are your strength. Rory has been tested in stressful situations. He feels at home there. Your product launch builds up a momentum of its own. Once it has begun to take off,  all you can do is guide it. Nudge it in to the right orbit using a variety of tools and tactics. You don’t have to be a marketing genius but being a good communicator helps. Rory is…

So how did you score?

Would you hire yourself to manage your own product launch?

Managing a product launch is a simple process. As with any process that has been refined and reduced to its bare essentials, it may look easy but try it yourself and you’ll find that there are a lot of moving parts that have to be synchronized whilst windows of opportunity are opening and closing as if moved by some unseen hand.

What do you do when you have a legal problem ? Hire a lawyer, of course !

What do you do when you have a product to launch ? Hire a product launch manager, of course !

But be warned, good ones are rare than chicken’s teeth and harder still to hire. They, like us, can only handle a limited number of launches in a year and get booked up well in advance. That gives us the opportunity to consider which product launch to take and which to leave.

It often comes down to our spidey sense.
